报告题目:The application of mathematics in medical physics

摘要:


Radiation therapy (RT) represents one of the mainstays of cancer treatment with projections estimating that 50% of patients in the EU will require external RT by 2025. This treatment uses beams of intense energy to kill cancer cells. RT is a highly cooperate area of math, physics, biology, and medicine. Math plays an important role in all the main steps of RT, such as diagnosis, dosimetry, treatment planning. Our work mainly focuses on the treatment planning modalities. In this presentation, we will introduce the math problems involved in the RT, which can greatly improve the treatment effects.


报告人简介:


Dr. Zhang is a resident in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Kansas Cancer Center. He received his bachelor’s degree from University of Science and Technology of China in 2016 and Ph.D. in Mathematics from University of Science and Technology of China in 2021. Prior to joining KU in 2021, Dr. Zhang worked as a visiting scholar in the Department of Mathematics at the Ohio State University. He currently works in the area of developing radiation therapy modalities for cancer diagnosis and treatment. His research focuses on the spatially fractionated radiation therapy.
